My Story and the Two Elements of Successful Long Term Weight Loss

This week I have decided to begin by telling my story in a little more detail. I have a youtube video as well which I'll be posting soon so stay tuned!


For the majority of my 40’s I was 35 pounds over weight, and I struggled. I didn’t feel like I was “me”, I didn’t look like myself anymore and I felt so hopeless and lost. I tried over and over to lose the weight , I swear I lost the same 10 pounds about 10 times! No matter what I did or tried I couldn’t seem to lose the weight. I’m sure it didn’t help that I was pre-menopausal so my hormones weren’t on my side either! I was so fed up, so tired of hating how I looked, not fitting my clothes.


One day I decided enough was enough. I started thinking about how I teach people how to change every day in my job as a therapist. I realized all I had to do was use my current skills to create a program, since I felt there was nothing out there that could help me, I needed to create it myself. So I created a program that made use of all my training in hypnosis, neuroscience, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavior change and habit forming. After several months, and lots of experimentation, I lost all the weight and I have kept it off despite stress, unexpected life changes, vacations, you name it.


After I lost the weight I had multiple requests to teach my model. I decided that I wanted to teach it as a coach rather than as a therapist so I trained as a Wellness Coach and became certified. During the course I started seeing clients pretty much right away and based on their needs and what had worked for me, I developed a 12-week program called Why Weight?. I started by offering one-on-one coaching and without any advertising, just simply by word of mouth, I soon had a wait list for my one-on-one program. With such a demand, and knowing there was nothing else out there like it, I had to think about how to make this more accessible to people. I realized that my program could easily be taught to more than one person at the same time. So, I adapted the program to be taught in a group format. I'm exited to say that it will be launched in October 2023. It will start off (Oct-Dec) with videos and worksheets each week on a different topic, along with membership in a facebook group and weekly group live coaching calls with me. Then in January the group program will continue to run but all the videos and the workbook will be issued at the time of purchase so people can work at their own pace. The group support is ongoing so that people always have a group to turn to for motivation and encouragement.


So Why Youtube and social media as well? What I found working with clients is that there are two important elements to weight loss. One is educating yourself about health and nutrition and learning to understand your physiology. This gives you a good grasp of how to lose the weight by working with the body -not against it as so many of us do. The second part, which is what my course teaches, is the psychological component. This is essential because this is how you learn to change habits and patterns, and how to work with your core beliefs and change them, how to wire your brain for success. Since I see the importance of both elements I decided that the course would teach the psychological components of weight loss and I would create a YouTube channel and social media profiles to teach the physiological part of weight loss. That way everyone who starts the program would be starting at the same place, on even ground. So many of my clients had misconceptions that weren’t serving them well for their weight loss journey. My goal by teaching both elements is to give everyone the tools they need to be successful LONG TERM. So this is weight loss without counting calories, without extreme diets but purely based on new healthy habits, so it feels effortless.


I want to teach this to as many women as I can, so they don’t have to buy any more books, or purchase any other programs, they will know exactly what to do and even if they fall of the wagon a little and old habits creep in, they will know exactly what to do to get back on track. They don’t have to feel so helpless, and they don’t have to do it alone!
